Zoom H1 V.s. Zoom H4n quick head to head. - DSLR Film NOOB Video

http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com
Just got the Zoom h1 and thought i'd give it a quick comparison to its bigger brother the Zoom h4n. The H1 is a nice little unit, but its missing some of the key features of the H4n including XLR inputs, rotating on board microphones, and computer audio interface.

For the price the zoom h1 sound very good, plus its light weight and has long battery life. For the price i think its a good buy.

Equipment used for this video:
Canon 7d w/35mm f1.4
Zoom h4n, zoom h1, and Sony pocket recorder
CPM film rig
sennheiser G2 wireless mic

can you compare? two recorders from the same level? because i looking for some info about h1.

The XLR inputs are ...
The XLR inputs are a huge inclusion. The H4N can also be used as an? audio interface for a computer, so having balanced XLR inputs to both the recorder and your computer is essential for filmmaking, documentary work, and ADR. Anything that needs a good shotgun mic going into a balanced input.

why would anyone ...
why would anyone pay 200 dollars more for? the H4n whereas the same quality is obtained with the H1, to me there is no contest i wouldn't get an H4n

What mic did you use? to record this video? Is it a tie mic?

Test it in free ...
Test it in free space. Best to do it in indoors and outdoors too. To test how they each sound, make sure you test without any sound changing settings like the rollof you had in the video. On the table you can get a big? difference because of the sound reflecting from the wood a slightly different microphone juxtaposition.

look at my channel ...
look at my channel a test of zoom h1. That's have a low quality audio with loud volume speaker. Or? is defective?

The Zoom H1 is a ...
The Zoom H1 is a terrible? unit. The build quality is so bad. That little power slider pops out all the time and I lost mine. Now I have no recorder. Do yourself a favor and get the H4n. Or go with a Tascam.

Now I didn't hear a difference but if I wanted to record drums in a very small room with a tight budget what do? you recommend would the h4 not produce static or both?

PLEASE READ!!! ...
PLEASE READ!!! What do you think about the quality difference when you hook up a boom mic to a xlr adapter to the 3.5 input. Rather than hooking it up? to the H4n's xlr input. Is it very noticeable? Please I have saved up enough for one and I need to make a decision soon. Thank you.

I had a Zoom H2 and ...
I had a Zoom H2 and within a couple of months the little clip? holding the cover over the SD card broke off. So I went to the Sony PCM-50. Sturdy and easier to operate. But I'd like to pick this H1 for "stealth" recordings. Glad to hear that it's this competitive. I'm tired of all the tiny menu systems. The buttons on this one look more attractive.

Both products are ...
Both products are quite good although the H1 being cheaper, is built cheaper with plastic parts. I like the H1 for wiring up to a lapel mic and sticking that in the pocket so it works as a somewhat good wireless system. The H4n hands down is a better unit, but you'll pay? for it by far. I recently got the H4n for my video work and LOVE it...even for the on board mics. The XLR inputs are VERY helpful.
